The School Day
The boys must arrive at the School for registration by 8.45 am. From 8.15 am there is a member of staff on duty to receive and supervise boys who are delivered early. No one may be left at the School before this time. Depending on their age, boys finish between 3.00 pm and 3.45 pm.
There are optional clubs after School, for boys of the appropriate ages. All boys finish at 3 pm on Fridays and there are no clubs or prep period on a Friday.
Homework
Early homework is principally reading. Boys of five and over have some homework, set on certain days. This is an important. aspect of their education. The ability to carry out work outside the class, is a vital skill and helps to instill self reliance. However, homework is in proportion to what is compatible with a normal family life outside School hours.
Assembly
There is School Assembly every day, in the School Hall. Assemblies give an opportunity to praise endeavour and for the Head and other staff to talk to all the boys together. Although Hawkesdown House is non, denominational, there is a Christian ethos and the values of Faith, Hope and Charity are taught.
Houses
All boys are members of one of three `houses' and there is cheerful competition between these. House points are awarded for effort and achievement, and for courtesy and other good reasons.
Lunch
Lunches are provided at the School. Any special dietary requirements regarding meals must be notified to the School well in advance.
Attendance
Pupils must attend every day except on account of illness or with prior permission from the School. A note of absence must be brought on returning to the School. In the event of absence, fees are not refunded. However, a School Fees Remission Scheme, provided by an insurance company, is available.
Uniform
The School colours are navy blue and red, and a full list of clothing that is required is sent to parents with details of the School's uniform supplier. The supplier comes to the School regularly.
Extra Subjects
For boys at the appropriate ages, there are a number of extras. Boys in Form One and above normally take Judo, those in Forms Two and Three take Chess and boys in Form Three may take Fencing.
Health
In the event that a boy has been exposed to any infectious or contagious illness during the holidays, parents must notify the School before the beginning of term. Similarly, if this is so during term time, the School should be notified immediately. No boy may be returned to the School after an illness until its infectious or contagious stage is over.
